U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken took to the stage at a bar in Ukraine’s capital on Tuesday for an impromptu jam session, strumming the guitar and belting out Neil Young’s 1989 hit “Rockin’ in the Free World” alongside a local band.
This musical interlude followed a long day for Blinken, during which he engaged in meetings with senior officials, civil society representatives, and university students. He encouraged them to remain steadfast in their resistance against Russian aggression.
Not only did Tony Blinken show up at a bar somewhere in Kyiv to play a rendition of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World," State Department planners brought along C-SPAN to film the thing. During his visit, Blinken reassured Ukrainians that they have the support of the United States, emphasizing that the long-awaited military aid, delayed due to political wrangling, will soon be arriving, promising tangible assistance on the battlefield.
Russian forces have made significant advances along the northeast border, causing widespread displacement of civilians in the Kharkiv region.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Blinken remained blindly resolute in his commitment to Ukraine’s defense, criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin for underestimating the nation’s determination to resist.
While Congress has approved a substantial aid package for Ukraine, including funds for replenishing depleted weaponry, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the urgent need for additional support, particularly air defense systems to safeguard vulnerable regions like Kharkiv.
