House Freedom Caucus (HFC) Chairman, Representative Scott Perry (R-Pa.), stated on Tuesday that the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, as announced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, was “long overdue.”

Perry emphasized that while the inquiry should be pursued if the facts lead in that direction, it should not be driven by political motives.

Perry’s remarks came during a press event where HFC members criticized the Biden administration’s handling of spending, border security, and negotiations when facing a potential government funding shortage.

Regarding the impeachment inquiry, Perry stressed that it should remain separate from economic issues such as the national debt, deficit, excessive spending, and inflation, which are negatively impacting American families.

Perry expressed his belief that the impeachment inquiry was long overdue, asserting that any citizen facing similar allegations would already be in court.

He emphasized that Americans should not have to endure the current economic challenges, including high interest rates and soaring credit card payments.

“If the facts take us to that location, then that’s where they should take it,” Perry said. “But it has nothing to do with the debt, the deficit, the outrageous spending, the inflation that’s crushing American families. Those are two separate issues, and they should be dealt with separately.”

“I think the impeachment inquiry is long overdue,” he said.

McCarthy’s announcement earlier in the day detailed “serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct” as the basis for the impeachment inquiry. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) is leading the inquiry, investigating allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption.

McCarthy accused President Biden of misleading the American people about his knowledge of his family’s foreign business dealings and suggested that the president’s family received preferential treatment due to their relation to him.
