The Democratic National Committee is in progress, and it seems President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are relying on it to divert attention from their actions during their three-and-a-half years in power.
But new statistics released on Tuesday will provide perspective for millions of Americans struggling during the Biden-Harris administration.
The latest New York Federal Reserve survey, released on Monday, indicated a weakening in the U.S. labor market. The survey highlighted a decrease in the number of employed individuals, along with a rise in the number of people actively looking for work. There is also a growing dissatisfaction with wages.
The survey, which is conducted three times a year, has raised concerns about job security. It also showed an increase in the number of individuals expecting to work beyond the typical retirement age. Additionally, despite seeking higher starting salaries, workers are receiving lower offers.
The results come as the unemployment rate edges higher, with Wall Street and Federal Reserve policymakers closely monitoring these developments for insights into the future of the U.S. economy, CNBC reported.
The survey revealed that among those employed during the last survey in March, only 88% retained their jobs, the lowest figure recorded since data collection began in 2014. Additionally, the proportion of those expecting to become unemployed increased to 4.4%, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous year and marking the highest level in the survey’s history.
The percentage of individuals seeking a new job in the past four weeks increased to 28.4%, marking a 9 percentage point rise from a year ago and reaching a new historic high since March 2014. Satisfaction with current wages fell to 56.7%, down over 3 percentage points from the same period in 2023.
Satisfaction with benefits decreased to 56.3%, a drop of more than 8 points from the previous year, while satisfaction with promotional opportunities declined to 44.2%, down from 53.5% last year. The decline was most pronounced among women, those without a college degree, and respondents with household incomes under $60,000, the survey said.
Improving the economy is a top priority for a large majority of Americans this election cycle, but so far, the socialist-Marxist proposals offered by Harris have been blasted on the right and left as being even more destructive.
