Award-winning actress Jean Smart has suggested that upcoming award shows should not be broadcast, proposing instead that networks redirect the funds typically allocated to these events to support fire victims in California.
The 73-year-old actress, who recently won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in Hacks, expressed her views in an Instagram post on Wednesday night.
“Attention! With ALL due respect, during Hollywood’s season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters,” the celebrity shared with her followers.

Smart did not specify which award shows she was referring to, but in the coming months, the Academy Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards are all scheduled to air.
The ongoing wildfires in California have already impacted these events. The SAG Awards canceled their live nominations and chose to announce the nominees through a press release on Wednesday morning.
Additionally, a spokesperson revealed that the voting deadline for the Academy Awards has been extended by two days, moving from January 12 to January 14, while the nominations will be announced on January 19 instead of January 17, the Daily Wire reported.
The Critics Choice Awards ceremony has been rescheduled from January 12 to January 26. The NHL also postponed Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Calgary Flames, while the NFL announced that they will “closely monitor” the wildfires to assess the status of Monday night’s playoff game between the LA Rams and the Minnesota Vikings, which is set to take place at SoFi Stadium.
Many Hollywood premieres have been canceled due to the fires, including the planned Tuesday night premieres of the films “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man,” and the Wednesday premieres of “Better Man” and “The Pitt,” as The Daily Wire previously reported.
Dozens of Hollywood stars were forced to evacuate their homes in the area and many have since posted on social media about losing their homes in the fires. James Woods, Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, Ricki Lake, Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Melissa Rivers, Spencer Pratt, Cary Elwes, and others posted on social media about losing their homes as the wildfires continue to burn.
