Donald Trump has secured the approval of the majority of Americans following his victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential race, according to a recent poll. With the GOP now in control of the presidency, the House, and the Senate, the party holds what some refer to as a “trifecta” heading into the new year.
A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll reveals that 54% of registered U.S. voters approve of Trump as president-elect, while 40% disapprove. Among Republicans, his approval soars to 91%. Independent voters show a 49% approval rate, whereas only 22% of Democrats support him at this stage.
The poll also indicates that 75% of Democrats disapprove of Trump, as do 40% of Independents. Meanwhile, Trump is swiftly assembling his cabinet for his second term, with notable appointments such as former GOP Chairwoman Elise Stefanik as UN Ambassador, Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, and former Rep. Matt Gaetz as Attorney General.
The survey found that Trump enjoys a plurality of support across several age groups, including those aged 18 to 24, 25 to 34, 35 to 44, and 45 to 54.
During his first term, Trump’s approval rating never exceeded 50%, according to The Hill. This latest poll was conducted online from November 13 to 14, sampling 1,732 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2.3%.
“It’s a good start he is above 50 in job approval so far — it will be important for him to stay above that level to govern effectively,” said Pollster Mark Penn
“The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey was conducted from Nov. 13 to 14 and surveyed 1,732 registered voters. It is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the Harris Poll.
“The survey is an online sample drawn from the Harris panel and weighted to reflect known demographics. The margin of error was 2.3 percentage points,” The Hill says.
