Gun sales continue to set records, according to the latest FBI figures.

The Washington Examiner reported that sales continue to be high despite President Joe Biden’s verbal attacks on so-called “assault weapons” as well as anti-gun rhetoric from several liberal mayors and officials in Democrat-run cities.

Or maybe gun sales are remaining high because of those attacks.

Whatever the reasons, “the FBI reported this week that sales have been over 1 million for 37 straight months, historic numbers,” the outlet reported, adding:

Gun background checks for August were the third-highest on record for the month, 2,518,137. When adjusted for sales versus security and other checks, sales were likely 1,286,816, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade group.

“August’s figures show there is a clear and steady desire by the American public for lawful firearm ownership,” said the group in a statement.

“Consistently throughout the year, background check figures for firearm sales at retail have put 2022 on pace to be the third strongest year, behind only the outsized years witnessed in 2020 and 2021. August’s figures of 1,286,816 background checks was slightly ahead of July’s that came in at 1,233,115,” the statement continued, according to the Washington Examiner.

“This also marks 37 months straight of background checks exceeding 1 million. Americans are choosing their gun rights by the millions each month while gun control politicians talk only of efforts to deprive them of their Constitutional rights. They are voting with their wallets. Politicians would be wise to heed to the will of Americans lawfully exercising their Constitutional rights and instead focus their efforts on locking up criminals that misuse firearms,” the NSSF said.

Earlier this summer, the Second Amendment advocates were buoyed by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down New York’s concealed carry law as overly restrictive — a ruling that will impact other states with similar laws. The court’s six conservatives ruled that the New York statute placed unconstitutional limits on citizens’ right to bear firearms outside of their own homes.

More recently, U.S. District Court Judge Charlotte Sweeney, who was appointed by President Biden, issued a temporary injunction last week blocking a Boulder County, Colo., ban on ‘assault weapons’ from taking effect, The Journal Record reported:

It’s the fifth lawsuit brought by the gun advocacy group in Colorado – including one targeting the state’s 15-round magazine capacity limit – after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down a New York gun law.

The high court’s ruling reinforces the group’s belief that the local gun restrictions infringe on Second Amendment rights. The organization promised a wave of lawsuits following the decision.

Now, the group is suing the city of Boulder, city of Louisville and the town of Superior over similar gun restrictions in legal battles that may set the groundwork for future Second Amendment litigation.
