This fall, Alex Jones’ Infowars media platform and its assets will be auctioned to help satisfy the more than $1 billion he owes to the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims, according to an expected order from a federal judge, as reported by the Associated Press.
Jones has vowed to continue his talk shows through other platforms, including a new website or his personal social media. He has also suggested that his supporters might purchase Infowars’ assets, allowing him to continue hosting his show as an employee under the Infowars brand in Austin, Texas.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez in Houston announced Tuesday that he will approve the auctions of Infowars, set to begin in November. However, he must revise a previous order to ensure that the trustee managing Jones’ personal bankruptcy has full control over all assets of Free Speech Systems, Infowars’ parent company, which is entirely owned by Jones.
The updated order from Judge Lopez will authorize the sale of Infowars’ intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrighted content, social media accounts, and websites, starting on Nov. 13. Jones’ personal social media accounts, such as his X account with 2.8 million followers, will not be included in the auction.
Chris Mattei, a lawyer representing several Sandy Hook families, said, “The Connecticut families have always sought a fair and equitable distribution of Free Speech System’s assets for all of the families, and today’s decision is a significant step forward.”
“FSS will now be sold at auction, meaning Alex Jones will no longer own or control the company he built. This brings the families closer to their goal of holding him accountable for the harm he has caused,” Mattei added.
In June, Jones commented on the situation, stating, “The situation with InfoWars being shut down by the government is accelerating. Although InfoWars dodged a bullet over the weekend, likely due to the huge outpouring of public awareness, things are heating up as early as tomorrow. There’s a very real possibility the courts may attempt to shut down the InfoWars offices… and force them to stay offline until an upcoming emergency hearing.”
Jones went on to criticize what he described as government overreach, saying, “You are watching America slide into blatant despotism, where the government targets and jails its political opponents (Trump), tortures and jails peaceful protesters (J6), and shuts down opposition media by force.”
He encouraged his supporters to remain peaceful and warned, “If the government shuts down InfoWars, the backlash against the regime will be historic. This will only further increase support for Trump and an electoral revolution in November.”
